Our Music Practitioners qualifications are designed to provide a vocationally-relevant education in contemporary music, aimed at beginners through to semi-professionals.

We are directly influencing the future of the Music Industry!

Focusing on the acquisition of practical skills and knowledge applicable to the sector, RSL’s Music Practitioners Qualifications at Levels 2 with OCAD, offers aspiring producers, performers, songwriters and entrepreneurs the opportunity to surround themselves in music while gaining a fully regulated and recognised qualification in the process.

These qualifications offer practically-focused alternatives to traditional GCSEs and A Levels, whilst retaining the rigour and recognition required for progression. Giving our students increased learner engagement, and extra qualification flexibility!

Designed to be equivalent to a GCSE qualification, our Level 2 course prepares you for the next stage of your education. Successfully completing it allows you to move on to Level 3 or other further education opportunities.

Course overview

Units will include

  • Instrumental Performance
  • Live Music Performance
  • Music Style in Context

There is no age limit. No previous music qualifications are required and enthusiastic beginners are welcome but any student not currently having regular lessons must commit to learning to play an instrument or sing in addition to the live lessons.

The aim is to provide a flexible, vocationally-relevant suite of popular music qualifications, which will equip learners with the skills to develop realistic employment opportunities in the music industry or to progress into Higher Education.

How it works

Throughout the course, students are guided through the various units via online lessons which can be viewed at a time convenient for the individual, whether live or recorded.

Live Lessons are taught twice weekly, which are also recorded for students to catch up on, or to watch again. Lessons will initially focus on developing a range of skills. One-to-one support sessions are available, if required, with the tutor to discuss each unit and assignment, and provide feedback on progress.

The course begins with induction where students discuss their previous background and desired route through the course and beyond. Students are guided through an overview of the course and what is required.
